Museums and libraries archives were not detailed enough to give us the name of this watchmaker from Regency, London, hero of our story. He was trying to create a travel clock, small and easy to read all at once. In those days, electricity was not yet available to manhood for lighting, so candles were the lighting source at night time. Little would our Victorian watchmaker know that his creation would become a highly collectable treasure. The watch was also used by travelers to read maps and light the cooking-fire (using the watch lens).
